TextExpander and TypeIt4Me.
Not exactly what I'm looking for. For those 2 apps I need to create an abbreviations and believe me I DO NOT want to create an abbreviation for every single word in the English language. I need an app that will continue the words for me, that is all. Just like when you press the esc key on TextEdit or Pages, but I don't want to press esc all the time.

I really, really, really love my lamp, the old G4, but started university this month and realized fairly quickly that something portable would come in handy.
Now the question is, what to get. I'm considering a few options:
Get additional iBook 14" (But isn't that too small and slow?)
Get additional PB 15" (But that'll be bloody expensive )
Sell old faithfull G4, buy PB 15" + 20 " display for home use (anyone happy with that solution???)
Also I was wondering, If I get a new machine running Tiger, and keep the old running Panther, won't it be annoying to work with two different OS'es?
(can't use Tiger disc for portable to install Tiger on iMac G4, can I?)
Any advice appreciated
-Squirrel
Well what will you use it for, what apps will you run? The ibook is not slow, the only time it will be slow is for running some pro apps such as FCP. Also you might want to consider the 12" ibook since the 14 and 12 inch have the same resolution.

Dodgy methods? Couldnt you have just signed up for a US iTunes account and downloaded it, then switched back to your normal one? That's how most non-US people got it easly.
AnDy
You need a credit card to register for an iTunes account and for some reason I think (read: think, not know) Apple has limited it to one credit card per account so I can't really do that.
Regional limiting is stupid, it's like DRM.

What is the height from the table or desktop to the bottom of the screen. Not the bottom of the IMAC, but the bottom of the screen/glass.
Thanks!
Jim
Have you tried this really helpful website and scrolled down?

Hint: look for size and weight

You have an iMac in your garage?
Yup. Its sitting on a wall mounted stand by the workbench. Comes in handy while working on the car. I can get on parts websites and forums without having to go inside. Very nice when using pictures or diagrams posted online.

I haven't used it anytime recently but you can use Terminal and the cp command with (I believe) the -p option. In Terminal type "man cp" for more information. Test it one one or two files first.

I am doing this for several reasons; one is that I'm not the smatest guy in town and this is my way of "doing science" without the need for schooling in science, it's a challenge I can handle, it's fun, it WILL help people down the road as we begin to use the information from this project in the medical field (might even help me some day), it is USEFUL information not just the results but the computer science and developement aspect as well :) Go Pande labs! :p

I check Amazon. The 4GB can really only be found with the bundle. You can get a stand alone 250 gig system.
Exactly. I might just break and buy a 250gb or maybe get the Kinect bundle and flip the Kinect on eBay or something. I hate stores.

hi john123,
i saw a post or two from kela after you left
eyelikeart is still one of the top posters
and i hope to hear from an incarnation, at least a more polite one, of spikey
monkeybusiness has not been around for awhile and you were still heavily here when anonymous poster and anonymous coward left the fold
blakespot does not come around much anymore
but it's really great to see you back
i have had to get used to new waves of posters every three months or so, but if you give the new high end contributers a chance, you may find that you like them

What program is that? And yes, I'm also noticing better (i.e. less accelerated) mouse movement in Lion (using Magic Mouse).
Nice to hear! I began to thought it was just an illusion but I guess I'm wrong \o/
It was a picture from http://triq.net/mac/mouse-acceleration-preference-pane-mac-os-x
But I prefer USB Overdrive

Whilst I appreciate that you have to have Ads on the site to generate revenue, there have been a few that pop up during the last few weeks with sound in them (I've attached an image of one such ad).
I actually make Flash based Ads from time to time and the guidelines are always clear that sound shouldn't be playing without either a rollover event or a user interaction.
I don't suppose you can removed/do something about these...they're really ruining my Pink Floyd.
Cheers!
Edit: Just seen another thread on this...sorry, I didn't check before posting.

There are lots because no one has been buying in anticipation of either a) new models in the main store, or b) further refurb price reductions on the current gen when new models start hitting the refurb store.
Either way, refurbished products are a good way to grab a Mac at reduced prices.

What's the difference anyway (besides of the brand)?
Is one faster? more silent? more durable?
Seagate has gone down in the last couple of years in terms of build quality and reliability. I have had nothing but good things to say about Western Digital drives.
The current iMac 27" I have (the 3rd one I've received from Apple,) was fitted with a Seagate drive. I regret not keeping the first iMac I received with the cracked glass, as that had a Western Digital drive in it. The WD drive was much quieter. Performance is probably a wash, but I'll take the silence anyday, short of putting a Green/5x00rpm drive inside.
I know the 2TB WD Caviar Blacks are fairly loud, but my new one is staying with a 1TB drive. Hope I get the WD.

Does anybody know why?
P.S. I get about 1/3 the normal battery life running XP, 1/2 running Vista, and 2/3 running an unsupported OS - Windows 7 - on my MBP.No idea. I have even encountered anecdotal evidence where a Hackintosh notebook will have better battery life under hacked OS X when compared to Windows.
Though it only applies to certain models and if you can get the power management to work properly.
